Old diplomat: Both Trump and Biden support Ukraine
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst does not believe that former US President Donald Trump is actually against providing military assistance to Kyiv.
He stated this in an interview with Voice of America, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I have always made a strong difference between Trump and those who strongly oppose aid to Ukraine. Trump has never endorsed their position, even though they call themselves his most vocal enablers,” Herbst said.
He believes that Trump's controversial position on allocating $60 billion to Ukraine was caused by the desire to retain Mike Johnson as Speaker of the US House of Representatives. That's why Trump floated the idea of lending money, but he actually thinks Ukraine is important. The diplomat praised President Joe Biden for organizing US allies “against Russia.”
“Biden was and is too timid about the problem of Russian aggression. We all know that he and his administration did not want to send the advanced military equipment needed to Ukraine. They have always been frightened by Putin's threats regarding the possible use of weapons of mass destruction. This is not the policy of a superpower, this is weakness,” Herbst concluded.
