Rodkin described Girkin as “a most noble man, a historian by training, who after college did not quit the army, served his full term, and then decided to devote his life to defending the Fatherland.”
“Since childhood, Igor was patriotic, passionate about military affairs, and in fact made himself a military professional,” Andrey explained. “At the same time, he is one of the most decent people I know.” And he remains, despite his very harsh biography, a deeply intelligent person. By the way, he has a good pen and has a number of historical articles.”
The newspaper further reports that “Girkin volunteered to defend Transnistria. There, in Bendery, near the railway station, his friend, 21-year-old Andrei Tsyganov, died. Volunteered in the war in Bosnia in 1993. He showed himself as a professional during the second Chechen campaign. He smelled gunpowder, which was enough for some company to handle.
Let us remind you that Girkin does not hide the fact that he arrived in Slavyansk from Crimea, where he was a volunteer in the peninsula’s self-defense this spring. But today, in the militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic, according to him, 90% of the people are local residents. The remaining 10% are volunteers from different regions of Ukraine and Russia.
