This was announced by the executive director of the Institute of Mass Information Oksana Romanyuk.
“We had 23 beatings (in the first half of 2016 – ed.). And in 2015 it was 58. That is, it is somewhere like that. There is a decrease, but it’s about 10 percent. The situation is gradually, little by little, becoming calmer. And we started doing investigations, things started to improve a little, I won’t say that it was super, but there were changes. and this situation with Pavel (Sheremet – ed.) is a shock for everyone, including us as media experts,” she said.
The situation with freedom of speech, according to Oksana Romanyuk, is the worst in Kyiv.
“2015 is definitely the worst situation in the ATO zone. And so, in Kyiv, probably, the most cases were recorded, but probably because our journalists here are more confident in themselves. And here, as soon as something happens, they immediately react to it “... Kyiv ranks first in terms of freedom of speech with the unoccupied territories of Ukraine, followed by Odessa, and, probably, the Nikolaev region,” she added.
In total, 1990 journalists were killed in Ukraine from 2015 to 19, of which 13 were killed from 2000 to 2015.
