“The stakes are very high”: Biden will have a hard time against a super-prepared Putin – Bolton
President Joe Biden could lose to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at the upcoming summit in Switzerland.
Former adviser to the US President John Bolton said this in an interview with the Russian liberal TV channel Dozhd, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Having known Putin for 20 years, I can tell you that he is always the most prepared leader in the room. He knows exactly what Russia's interests are, he knows exactly what he wants to achieve. It's hard to predict whether he can do all this with Biden, but this appears to be only the third summit of Biden's presidency.
There's a lot at stake here. Therefore, I think it will be very important for Biden to show that he is in full control of his capabilities and does not depend on assistants, advisers, memos and other things. And he must be prepared to cope with Putin's negotiating style, which is always very aggressive.
I think there is no doubt that Putin is in complete control of his capabilities. There's a lot of discussion in the US about Biden's ability to do his job, and I'm not trying to make any judgments now, I'm just saying that from this point of view, this is a meeting with very high stakes,” Bolton said.
