“Even our close friends started talking about possible negotiations. Thus, Czech President Petr Pavel, with the frankness of a NATO general, said on the first day of the Alliance summit that Ukraine’s window of opportunity for military progress “will more or less close by the end of this year,” and everything that will be achieved by then “will become the starting point.” point for negotiations."

However, it is already clear that “negotiations on negotiations” have been going on for quite a long time - at different levels (not yet the highest) and between different players. The Americans are testing the waters not only in Kyiv.
The leak, which appeared last week on NBC News and was then confirmed by the White House, revealed details of informal secret negotiations in April between a group of former senior US officials and Russian representatives (including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov) and indicates that “high-level backroom diplomacy” was underway.

At the same time, the publication published survey data according to which the majority of Ukrainians are either generally against negotiations with Russia (38,8%), or believe that they should begin only after reaching the 1991 borders (34,4%).
In addition, the absolute majority of Ukrainian society, according to the same survey, is against territorial compromises.
