"Weapons in exchange for peace." It seems that this sad oxymoron has a great chance of becoming our not-so-distant reality...

After Ukraine’s partners incredibly delayed (and continue to delay) the supply of critically needed weapons to Ukraine; they never provided our army with, if not an advantage over Russia, then at least parity in the air during the “decisive offensive”; Western media have been systematically increasing the level of expectations from this offensive for six months, and now the same media are no less systematically sowing disappointment and writing about its “too slow” pace, “modest successes” and “big losses” that Ukraine is suffering,” the article says .

It is indicated that against this background, the word “negotiations” has been heard more and more often in recent weeks, and not only from politicians like former US President Donald Trump or Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“Even our close friends started talking about possible negotiations. Thus, Czech President Petr Pavel, with the frankness of a NATO general, said on the first day of the Alliance summit that Ukraine’s window of opportunity for military progress “will more or less close by the end of this year,” and everything that will be achieved by then “will become the starting point.” point for negotiations."

And before that, Polish President Andrzej Duda expressed Poland’s readiness for peacekeeping, “if Ukraine decides to hold peace negotiations with Russia and a decision is made to conduct a peacekeeping operation with the participation of Western soldiers,” writes the author, editor of the international department of the publication Tatyana Silina, previously called journalist Kirill Vyshinsky, arrested in Kyiv, with a “valuable exchange fund.”

According to her, official Washington has so far publicly repeated the previous thesis that Ukraine itself will decide when to sit down at the negotiating table with Russia, “however, behind the scenes, apparently, the soil for this decision is already being actively fertilized.”

“And the recent publication by The Washington Post about the unadvertised June visit of CIA Director William Burns to Kiev, during which the Ukrainian authorities allegedly revealed to him their ambitious plans, including regarding the start of negotiations with the Russian Federation at the end of this year, is confirmation of this.

It is not known exactly who told whom more about future negotiations. However, it is already clear that “negotiations on negotiations” have been going on for quite a long time - at different levels (not yet the highest) and between different players. The Americans are testing the waters not only in Kyiv.

The leak, which appeared last week on NBC News and was then confirmed by the White House, revealed details of informal secret negotiations in April between a group of former senior US officials and Russian representatives (including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov) and indicates that “high-level backroom diplomacy” was underway.

There is reason to believe that Ukrainians, when meeting with Russians, are also discussing not only the exchange of prisoners. And the geography of platforms for discussion is quite wide - from Turkey and the Emirates to Israel,” writes ZN.

At the same time, the publication published survey data according to which the majority of Ukrainians are either generally against negotiations with Russia (38,8%), or believe that they should begin only after reaching the 1991 borders (34,4%).

In addition, the absolute majority of Ukrainian society, according to the same survey, is against territorial compromises.
