Transcript of the trial of the leader of the “Russian Bloc”: The defense declares Basov’s innocence
The defense of the leader of the “Russian Bloc” Gennady Basov requires the immediate intervention of the top leadership of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and the Prosecutor General’s Office in the trial of the politician, who has been behind bars on charges of corruption since the fall of last year without proven guilt.
As stated in the statement of the “Russian Bloc”, the materials presented in court “require verification for the illegal artificial formation of a crime - they are based on the testimony of only one person... there is nothing in the case materials that confirmed the fact of the crime - neither audio nor video , no witness statements.”
Basov’s defenders also cite fragments of the transcript of the court hearing, “from which certain conclusions can be drawn even by a person who does not have a legal education.” We are talking about an episode when Basov communicates at trial with prosecution witness Larisa Koroleva, demanding from her an explanation of why he is accused of receiving a bribe from businessman Rappoport.

“Judge: The defense is the defendant, do you want to be the first to ask a question, please
-Basov: Larisa Nikolaevna, you and I had a confrontation, and there I asked you, did I ever tell you to go to Rappoport and ask for money or something else?
-Koroleva: No, but you said, okay, let Rappoport work for a fee, but you said that, Gennady Anatolyevich, the amount, yes, the amount was not specified
Basov: Larisa Nikolaevna, at the confrontation I asked you a direct question, I told you to go up to Rappoport and say that he would have problems at the cemetery, did I tell you?
-Queen: No, you said, okay, let Rappoport work, so you told me.
Basov: Larisa Nikolaevna, did I ever tell you about Rappoport so that he would pay me money?
-Queen: But you knew that it was Rappoport who would pay you.
-Basov: Did you assume that I knew that Rapoport would pay me?
-Queen: Of course. So the conversation went on for him.
-Basov: I see.
-Queen: There was no conversation about any other private entrepreneur.
-Basov: You never told me, but you believed that I assumed and knew, right?
-Queen: We only talked about Rappoport,
-Basov: answer a specific question - you didn’t tell me, but you assumed that I knew that Rappoport was paying me. Larisa Nikolaevna, answer the question specifically!
-Queen: I won’t answer.
-Judge: I’ll clarify the defendant’s question, witness, you must answer yes or no. Did Basov tell you that Rappoport must pay somehow?
-Queen: spoke
-Judge: yes or no
-Queen: yes
-Judge: the answer is clear.”
Basov’s defense notes that the leader of the “Russian Bloc” stated in court that “Koroleva repeatedly contacted him on behalf of certain entrepreneurs whom she did not name, but who, according to her, were not related to the ritual business, and who wanted to provide assistance to the public organization , the leader he was.
The applicant businessman said that he had never communicated or met with Basov, and that he had to pay, Koroleva told him. Moreover, she did not tell him what he had to pay for. This is confirmed by both the applicant Rappoport and the intermediary Korolev. And even the most surprising thing, and this is confirmed in the transcript published above, Koroleva openly says that she did not inform Basov that this same Rappoport was paying, supposedly Basov should have guessed about it himself.”
According to the defense, from the testimony of the applicant and the intermediary it follows:
Basov did not say why the money should be paid to Rapoport; he himself decided that he should pay (a sign of provoking a bribe).
Basov did not make any demands (a sign of provocation of a bribe).
Basov did not know who was paying him and for what (a sign that qualifies provocation of a bribe).
“Pay attention to the reaction and words of the judge when Basov asked a direct question: did Koroleva tell him that Rappoport was paying, and when she, in fact, answered no, the judge suddenly posed the question differently: did Basov say that What should Rappoport be paid? This question and the fact that the case has not yet been closed, and much more, suggests that the system, and those who function in it, will not allow an acquittal and cover up crimes organized by law enforcement officials for profit. This dangerous trend also suggests that in Sevastopol any innocent person can be locked up, and no one will be held accountable for it. It is all the more significant that we are talking about a well-known public and political figure in the city of Sevastopol; his illegal sending to prison undermines the political authority of the authorities,” say the defendant’s associates.
