Supporters of Novorossiya predict the return of the capital to Kharkov
Kyiv, June 23 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Kharkov could regain the capital city and become the center of New Russia, for the creation of which Russian rebels in the Donbass are fighting.
This was stated by one of the leaders of the Kharkov protest, political scientist Konstantin Dolgov, who was forced to leave the city after the opening of a criminal case against him.

“Kharkov, as a large industrial, cultural, scientific center, without a doubt, could become the capital of the resurgent New Russia. Let me remind you that Kharkov was the capital of not only the Ukrainian SSR, but also the Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic, which also included the territories of the modern Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Kharkiv residents still see themselves together with the Lugansk and Donetsk residents, I myself am from Kharkiv, I know the mood of my fellow countrymen,” he said.
“Kyiv fell ill with the bacillus of Western Ukrainian nationalism, and we see the result of this progressive disease now. Kharkov was founded as a Russian city, has always been Russian-speaking, it served to protect against Western raids, which have now resumed again. I am confident that Kharkov will fulfill its function and defeat the new fascist plague,” added Dolgov.
Exactly 80 years ago, on June 24, 1934, all state and party institutions of the Ukrainian SSR were moved from Kharkov to Kyiv, and government officials moved with them. After this, Kyiv actually became the capital of the Ukrainian SSR.
The decision to move the capital of Ukraine from Kharkov to Kyiv was made in the Kremlin personally by Joseph Stalin back in January 1934.
The confrontation between Kiev and Kharkov has historical roots. After the revolution of 1917, the Bolsheviks could not gain a foothold in Kyiv; it was the “bourgeois” capital of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, respectively, with anti-Russian, anti-Soviet and anti-Bolshevik sentiments. Kharkov, in turn, was a proletarian city, oriented towards Moscow. In 1919, Kharkov became the Ukrainian capital, which contributed to its rapid development - industrialization, urban construction and the opening of new factories, cultural and scientific flourishing.
