Supporters of Ukrainian Crimea at the Shevchenko monument in Simferopol were met by Russian security forces
Simferopol, August 25 (Navigator, Viktor Orlov) – On Ukraine’s Independence Day, a gathering of Russian security forces was observed at the traditional gathering place for supporters of the Ukrainian Crimea – at the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Simferopol.
Journalist Lilya Abibulaeva, who decided to celebrate the Ukrainian holiday, spoke about this.

“We arrived at this park, and there was an “oil painting”: paddy wagons, policemen, FSB officers, some other extras - in a word - waiting for us... Our Simferopol has turned into a branch of the ghetto,” she wrote on Facebook.
Abibulaeva also noted how residents of Simferopol reacted on public transport to Ukrainian symbols attached to her clothes and the clothes of the journalist’s daughter.
“How we drove is a completely different story, because on public transport “normal” Crimeans looked at us as if we had some kind of cholera or gonorrhea. The grandmothers loudly said something to me, like “I’m a fool, I gave this nasty thing to a child,” says a supporter of the Ukrainian status of Crimea.
The portal “Crimean Ukrainians” reports that on August 23, near the Shevchenko monument, Simferopol resident Sergei Dub was detained by the police, who was riding a bicycle with a Ukrainian flag. Dub claims that many drivers honked their horns in greeting and shouted “Glory to Ukraine,” but the police charged him with petty hooliganism.
Let us recall that the day before the Simferopol City Council also did not sanction the rally of supporters of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars, dedicated to the “Pan-European Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Stalinism and Nazism.”
