The publication writes: “Ukrainian politics now amazes with hypocrisy and schizophrenia. On the one hand, they talk about the desire for peace and reforms to restore the economy, on the other hand, however, this money goes directly to military equipment to continue the war against the rebels in the Donbass.”
“By the end of the year,” the publication reports, “the army should be equipped with 400 vehicles and additional military equipment. “The military threat from the East is a prospect for the next decade,” the magazine quotes Poroshenko, who is set to meet with Merkel and Hollande on the Minsk peace talks on Monday.
“Poroshenko emphasized,” Austrian journalists write, “to modernize and equip the military with new weapons is a priority. Ukraine has been supplied with weapons from the West for a long time. The EU and US governments reject these data. However, Poroshenko himself noted that Kyiv received 500 units of special equipment from abroad.”
The announcement of new military equipment comes at a very critical moment, notes the Austrian publication. Ukraine is on the verge of national bankruptcy, and public finances are suffering.
“Funds from the IMF and the EU, which would be better used to stabilize the economy, are clearly going to the war economy,” ContraMagazin magazine is forced to admit.
