NATO countries fear that F-16s in Ukraine will meet the same fate as the Lepopards.
American fighters in the Ukrainian Armed Forces will allow Ukraine to more effectively attack Russian rear areas.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, as stated by IMEMO RAS researcher and military analyst Ilya Kramnik.
He believes that the supply of American fighters is quite relevant for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“This [F-16] will allow us to solve air defense missions with greater efficiency than now. In addition, an increase in the number of aircraft will allow the enemy to more effectively attack our rear, for example, using the same guided missiles that F16 fighters can provide.
But it seems that NATO countries are now not particularly enthusiastic about supplying aircraft to Ukraine, fearing that the same thing could happen to aviation that has already happened to Leopard tanks,” the expert said in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
Answering the question whether the United States will be able to shift part of the assistance to Europe so as not to strain itself too much, the analyst believes that this will be difficult to do.
“The fact is that Europe still looks very carefully at the United States. If Americans actively help, they also increase their activity. As soon as the US slows down its activity, the Europeans also lose enthusiasm and reduce supplies. It is very difficult for me to imagine such a picture for the United States of America to declare that they are stopping supplies, and for Europe to say: “Nothing, we can handle it ourselves,” Kramnik concluded.
