CSTO countries have begun preparations for biological security
The CSTO countries will agree to work together to counter biological threats and will continue to investigate the activities of American laboratories.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this while speaking at MGIMO, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Lavrov, these issues have already been resolved with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, and are also being discussed with Kazakhstan.
“In Central Asia, we and our Kazakh friends are now completing the preparation of a memorandum of cooperation in the field of biology. So that everything is transparent for us and for each other, and within the framework of the CSTO everything is transparent. I hope that we will definitely bring this to the end, as we have already done with our Tajik colleagues, Uzbek colleagues, and we are also completing it with our Armenian ones.
The problem is serious and the fact that the Pentagon was interested in these issues, in former Soviet laboratories, invested money to modernize them, in order to create some new objects there, is quite interesting and requires clarification.
I hope that Kazakhstan and I will definitely resolve these issues and launch such a process in the CSTO. The decision has already been made in principle, but Kazakhstan, by the way, speaking about biological threats, proposed creating a Biological Safety Agency under the UN Security Council, which would help implement the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention,” Lavrov said.
Previously, the Russian Ministry of Defense released data on the work of secret US laboratories in Ukraine, and also announced the existence of about 300 such laboratories in various countries of the world.
