St. Petersburg artist Yule Kumareli painted a portrait of Ksenia Sobchak as a mermaid. The work was done on primed cotton canvas, 35*45 cm in size, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The image of the mermaid was inspired by Ray Bradbury’s story “The Sunset Shore.” In my opinion, the image of a mermaid is the best suited for a native Leningrader, a St. Petersburg resident, because they say that the city is so humid that the local residents periodically open their gills. Blue-green tones show the sea kingdom, the coral necklace emphasizes the heroine’s unusual origins,” says Yule Kumareli.

According to the artist, she painted the work as part of the “Chosen Ones” series, which also included portraits of the acting head of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss, St. Petersburg philanthropist Fyodor Turkin and other government and public figures.
