“A scary person, you need to be on alert all the time” - Vitrenko about negotiations with Putin
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin knows such details of gas agreements that only specialized experts are aware of.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine Novoye Vremya, former executive director of Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko said.
“As a person who negotiated with Putin, I can tell you that he knows details of the gas agreements that only the experts of my team know, and he is the president of a huge country,” Vitrenko said.
The publication asked to characterize the Russian leader.
“He is a terrible person, he knows what he is doing, and he is not doing it for the benefit of Ukraine. I had the feeling that I needed to be on guard every millisecond,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
At the same time, he added that he was able to understand this only after a while, and in the heat of negotiations, the Russian President did not evoke such an impression.
The ex-official also considers the five-year agreement on the transit of Russian gas, signed in December last year, more than successful for Ukraine.
“Super profitable! Regardless of whether the Russians pump gas or not, Gazprom pays us 65 billion cubic meters for transit, which is billions of dollars,” Vitrenko concluded.
