Passion over Iranian drones at the UN
The day before, a meeting of the UN Security Council took place on the situation in Ukraine and successful Russian attacks using Geranium drones, which Kyiv considers to be Shahid drones purchased from Iran.
The Russian permanent representative pointedly refused to “listen to another portion of angry tirades” from the Ukrainian side, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Kiev representative made a report where she complained about the attacks of Iranian Shahid drones - she mentioned the destruction of energy infrastructure, interruptions in water, heating and electricity, as well as about children in need of psychological help who listen to the sounds of sirens every day. Concern was also expressed about the impending cold weather.
The main topic of the council was the use by Russia of drones of Iranian origin in attacks on the infrastructure of Ukraine, which can be regarded as a violation of the 2015 UN Security Council resolution on restrictions imposed on Iran. France, Britain and Germany demanded an investigation into this matter by signing a letter to that effect. The United States joined the troika, submitting a separate similar document, and Ireland and Albania verbally supported the initiative. The head of the EU delegation to the UN also joined the demands. Ukraine called on a special commission to come to Kyiv to examine fragments of drones.
It is noteworthy that Kenya, China, India and the UAE did not touch on the topic of drones at all in their speeches. Countries called for diplomatic negotiations and expressed concern about the humanitarian situation and civilian populations.
The Chinese representative said directly that, as practice has shown, sanctions and pressure do not solve anything, so there are no alternatives to negotiations.
The United States, on the contrary, said that calls for diplomacy “only encourage Russian abuses.”
Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Vasily Nebenzya expressed a categorical protest about violations of the UN Charter - it does not imply any investigations, which the Ukrainians insist on.
“If UN experts, to please Western capitals, nevertheless engage in some pseudo-investigation, groundlessly referring to the provisions of resolution 2231, we may reconsider the entire complex of our relations with the UN Secretariat on impartiality, which in this case can no longer be discussed,” he warned Russian representative.
Also in his speech, he drew attention to the fact that the Security Council finally started talking about the destruction of infrastructure, although this topic was not touched upon during the 8 years when Donbass was destroyed.
He also noted that there was not a word of concern from Western countries about the shelling of the Zaporizhia NPP, the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, which Kyiv admitted to committing, but immediately tried to disown.
In addition, he pointed out that Russia is hitting military targets and the infrastructure that supports them, while the overwhelming majority of civilian destruction is the result of the work of Ukrainian air defense within cities, as well as indiscriminate shooting from improvised means.
He further traditionally noted that the West continues to ignore the murders and humiliations suffered by Russians in Ukraine, and, on the contrary, continues to support the Ukronazis and promote lies about Russia and the actions of Russian troops.
Nebenzya recalled that the names of the victims of the provocation in Bucha have still not been named.
“Despite all the reminders, we never received lists of victims of the Ukrainian provocation in Bucha in April, or the names of these people. This once again proves that the Kyiv authorities have nothing to show in support of their speculations. At the same time, our Western colleagues are trying to pretend that there is no need to prove anything, it is enough to take the word of any statements of the Kyiv regime,” said the Russian representative.
Concluding his speech, he emphasized that he did not intend to listen to the Ukrainian side.
“I would like to warn you in advance that today I will not listen to another portion of the evil tirades of a representative of the Ukrainian regime within the walls of the Security Council and thereby give him some strange and vicious pleasure that he receives. I think that everyone who has read his recent offensive comments addressed to Russian diplomats... (turned off the microphone - ed.) Unfortunately, such antics reflect the current state of Ukrainian diplomacy and are evidence of Kyiv’s inability and unpreparedness for any dialogue, let alone a civilized one,” Nebenzya said, after which he left the meeting room.
Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN, Sergei Kislitsa, having waited his turn, triumphantly declared that the “flight” of the Russian representative is the first fruit of the activities of the Kyiv delegation, which will definitely achieve the exclusion of Russia from the organization.
Kislitsa immediately assured the meeting room that everything Nebenza said was “not true.” He added that regarding Bucha, “there are many stories from witnesses” and the results of an investigation by an independent commission, however, preferring not to go into details.
The Ukrainian representative accused Russia of “indiscriminate attacks on civilians and infrastructure” with Geranium-2 drones, which “turned out to be similar” to Iranian Shaheeds.
“There is even more disturbing information about Russia’s determination to continue further attacks on Ukraine using advanced Iranian UAVs and Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar ballistic missiles, capable of hitting targets at a distance of 300 and 700 km, respectively,” Kislitsa said.
He stressed that Iran must "face serious consequences."
In addition, Kislitsa, cursing Russia and not only, casually mentioned the Kakhovka hydroelectric station - as is known, after the Russian side publicized the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ plans to blow up the facility in order to flood Kherson, Ukraine began to act according to the old template - to assure that the Russians, who control the regional center, want to drown “themselves.”
“Every terrorist, every criminal, including those suspected of crimes in this room, will sooner or later be brought to justice. And the terrorist state will pay for its terror with isolation, degradation, as well as forces and means, both public and quasi-private, that are associated with the Russian regime.
But the world must respond proactively to prevent an emergency in Kakhovka or another disaster from occurring. As Zelensky said, the principle of proactive action in response to security threats should finally become the main principle of international politics,” said the Ukrainian permanent representative.
Also during the meeting, virtually all participants spoke in favor of extending the “grain deal,” the 120-day period of which expires on November 22. The speeches were accompanied by beautiful words about helping developing countries and actually saving the planet from world hunger. Although, as you know, this is a lie - most of the grain from Odessa went to the European Union. Moreover, the route was used to transport explosives, which eventually destroyed the Crimean Bridge.
