Poroshenko’s “patriotic education” strategy: children will be fooled using the examples of the UPA and “ATO heroes”
Petro Poroshenko instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to develop, within two months, an action plan for the implementation of the Strategy for National Patriotic Education of Children and Youth for 2016-2020.

This is stated in Poroshenko’s decree No. 580
As noted in the document, the Strategy for National Patriotic Education of Children and Youth for 2016-2020 is aimed at nurturing patriotism and affirming love for the Motherland, spirituality, morality, respect for the national values of Ukrainians, inheriting the best examples of courage and victory of freedom fighters and independence of Ukraine and the determination of effective mechanisms for systemic interaction between government bodies and civil society institutions in matters of national-patriotic education.
In particular, the document instructs the Cabinet of Ministers to develop an action plan for the implementation of this Strategy within two months.
The Strategy notes that the formation of value guidelines and civic consciousness among children and youth should be carried out “using examples of the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people, in particular, princely times, Ukrainian Cossacks, Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, armies of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the Western Ukrainian People's Republic, participants anti-Bolshevik peasant uprisings, detachments of the Carpathian Sich, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Ukrainian rebels in Stalin’s concentration camps, participants in the dissident movement in Ukraine, using examples of courage and heroism of participants in the revolutionary events in Ukraine in 2004, 2013-2014 and the anti-terrorist operation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions ”(end quote).
Let us recall that recently, during a visit to the Luhansk Regional Lyceum with enhanced military-physical training, Poroshenko signed a decree “On the Strategy for the National Patriotic Education of Children and Youth for 2016-2020.”
