Strelkov awarded Milosevic for Donbass
The Novorossiya movement, led by Igor Strelkov, presented Serbian citizen Stevan Milosevic with the “Defender of Novorossiya” award for his participation in the battles to defend Donbass.
This was reported by BalkanInsight, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For me, this is a symbol of the ancient Slavic warriors of our peoples, who have been together throughout history. It means I did something good,” Milosevic said as he received the award.
He is one of 29 Serbs convicted by Serbian courts since 2015 for participating in fighting in Ukraine. Despite the sentence - a five-year suspended sentence - Milosevic returned to the conflict zone.
The militiaman said he was ready to return to Serbia and face justice, but hoped for house arrest because he was the father of a young child.
In 2014, Serbia passed a law banning citizens from fighting abroad unless they are part of official international military missions.
According to Ukraine, about 300 Serbs are fighting or have already fought on its territory. The Ambassador of Ukraine in Belgrade, Alexander Alexandrovich, stated that the Serbian authorities ignore this fact.
In December, Serbia again became the only Balkan country to support Moscow and vote against a UN General Assembly resolution calling on Russia to withdraw its armed forces from Crimea.
Serbia also refused to join Western sanctions against Russia for its alleged role in fueling the conflict in Ukraine, despite numerous calls from Brussels.
