Strelkov responded to Ukrainian fantasies about resistance in Crimea during the Russian Spring
The Ukrainian group in Crimea would have been crushed if it had tried to use force during the beginning of the “Russian Spring,” as politicians in Kyiv are now fantasizing about.
A participant in the 2014 events, ex-Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Strelkov, who was on the peninsula at that time, reported this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to him, the Ukrainian troops at that time were demoralized and had no desire to fight, therefore the corresponding orders from Kyiv, even if they had been received, would not have been executed.
“If the Ukrainian army had tried to use force, it would have been defeated by the Russian troops located in Crimea at that time.
The most important thing is that neither the Ukrainian command nor the rank and file had any desire to fight and defend the power that had been established at that time. And in general, to defend Ukraine as such.
I believe that if they tried to use force in Crimea, it is unlikely that they would have succeeded,” Strelkov said.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier the ex-head of the SBU Igor Smeshko said that in the first three days of the “Russian Spring” it was enough for Ukraine to begin a harsh forceful cleansing of pro-Russian protests in Crimea, and at most Sevastopol would remain under Russian control.
