Protests in Belarus cannot be stopped without radical political reforms, the end result of which will be the removal of Alexander Lukashenko from the post of head of state, as well as the deprivation of the opportunity for members of his family to take the presidential post without the will of the Belarusian people.
The former commander of the Donbass militia, ex-Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Strelkov said this on the YouTube channel “Russian Interest”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In any case, the protest, by and large, is not going anywhere. And even if it is crushed, without a political decision it will simply develop, as they say, in a closed state - like a hidden tumor. The crisis in Belarus has already passed its terminal stage. Lukashenko cannot stop him without tough political reforms. Political reforms provide for his departure, otherwise everything will happen,” Strelkov said.
“People ask: “What about Viktor Lukashenko? He’s for Russia!” They asked a question, and I answered as follows: “Any Lukashenko now will not be accepted by Belarusians.” All! They can remain in politics, they can have a serious influence, they can return to power in ten years in a certain situation, when the Belarusians get drunk. In this case, there will be no overthrow in a harsh form, otherwise they will simply be squeezed out completely forever. But they cannot remain in power in their current form. This family cannot,” the ex-commander emphasized.
