Strelkov told who in Russia secretly supports the Maidan in Ukraine and Belarus
A number of Russian oligarchs secretly supported Euromaidan in Ukraine, because they hoped to legalize in the EU funds acquired through dubious means and transferred to Kyiv.
Ex-Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Strelkov announced this on air on the Russian Interest Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Strelkov expressed concern that, for similar reasons, some Russian oligarchs might support pro-Western forces in Belarus.
“Why did everything happen like this in Ukraine? Because before this revolution, the so-called, before this Maidan, Russian oligarchs... invested huge amounts of money in Ukraine, in the Ukrainian economy, in Ukrainian enterprises, land, and business. And in this Maidan they all saw a great chance to legalize their investments in the European Union.
That is, while some... told us how we were fighting Ukraine’s course towards the West, these people really contributed with all their might to the victory of this Maidan revolution. Because they expected that Ukraine would join the European Union, and at the same time all their investments would actually be legalized,” said the former Minister of Defense of the DPR.
“And it’s the same in Belarus. The next attempt of these “babariks” is another boat, where they reloaded part of their wealth, looted here, and now, we need to set sail from the ship, which may sink,” Strelkov added.
