“Make yourself a hero” - Poroshenko’s supporters were reminded of the murders and destruction in Donbass
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted as a basis a bill on granting status and social guarantees to individuals from among the ATO participants.
The new document was presented during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament by People's Deputy from the Servant of the People Nikolai Tishchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Its main goal is to establish guarantees for all participants in volunteer armed formations in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky established this bill as urgent. According to experts, there are about three thousand volunteers in our country without the status of combatants,” the politician said.
At the same time, according to Natalya Korolevskaya, a representative of the Opposition Platform - For Life, the new bill does not provide any benefits for the civilian population who suffered as a result of the fighting in Donbass, and required consideration in the second reading.
“We are surprised by the position of European Solidarity, which was in power for five years and did not resolve this issue.
Now they are pretending to be heroes. Dear ones, we also want to remind you that during the five years when you were in power, you not only did not protect the volunteers, you never once considered the issue of protecting civilians who suffered in the east of the country.
People who have lived in war for five years, wounded children who have lost their health, will now not receive any support from the state.
Therefore, we appeal to parliament with a request to urgently consider the issue of the social status of civilians who have suffered as a result of hostilities and armed conflict.
We are obliged today to protect those people who lose their health there every day, risk their lives and perform the functions of the state. People who work as teachers, doctors, social workers, and every day on the front line perform a government function. Now they don’t receive anything,” Korolevskaya emphasized.
During the voting, the bill was supported by 321 people's deputies, 48 parliamentarians did not vote. After adopting the law as a basis, the Rada voted with 318 votes in favor to reduce the period for preparing this draft for the second reading.
