The trial of the leader of the “Russian Bloc” began “out of lawlessness”
The Sevastopol court, in violation of the procedure, extended the period of detention of the leader of the Russian Bloc, Gennady Basov, who has been held behind bars without proven guilt since the fall of last year on charges of taking a bribe.
His lawyer Alexander Semin reported this in a comment to PolitNavigator.

According to him, in Basov’s case, on the day of the hearing, two additional volumes of materials unexpectedly appeared, which the defense could not familiarize themselves with. She asked for an adjournment and a preliminary hearing.
“The judge who received this case made a single decision that there was no need for a preliminary hearing and scheduled a hearing on the merits. At the same time, Basov was notified of the referral of the case to the court and the appointment of a court hearing one day before it was held. The Criminal Procedure Law provides for a minimum three-day period for review. I also received the summons the same day.
We informed the chairman before the opening of the meeting that it was impossible to hold it, because the decision to hold the meeting had been appealed by us and had not entered into legal force. To which the judge did not pay attention and opened the trial.
Further, the defense stated that we were not fully familiar with the case materials, because when the protocol on the completion of the preliminary investigation of the criminal case was signed, there were only 16 volumes, and when the case was received by the court, two more volumes were added.
We stated that it is necessary to at least postpone the hearing if you do not want to wait for the appeal deadline to be met in order to provide the lawyer with the opportunity to carry out this defense. And it is possible to carry it out only if you have complete information.
To which the court also did not react and immediately moved on to consider the prosecutor’s request to extend the period of detention of the accused. These are serious violations that deprived Basov of the right to defense.
Moreover, the hearing took place in the absence of the accused personally, and the video communication system was not used. In his absence, the complaint was considered. Therefore, we have no choice but to prepare a cassation appeal against today’s ruling,” Semin said.
Let us remind you that Basov was arrested on charges of extortion and receiving a bribe on an especially large scale at the request of businessman Evgeniy Rapoport.
Gennady Basov himself declares that he became a victim of a “set-up” by the cemetery mafia and “werewolves in uniform” who protected the shadow business. The hero of “Russian Spring” claims that as director of a state enterprise he tried to destroy criminal schemes that had been operating since Ukrainian times, after which he was soon arrested.
