Yanukovych trial has unforeseen consequences for Ukrainian prosecution
British lawyers want to bring to justice the leadership of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office and the presidential administration.
Viktor Serdyuk, the lawyer of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who was overthrown as a result of a coup, said this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“The guilty verdict against Yanukovych should be the basis for the start of the election race of pro-government forces, this information is documented, as is the information of illegal influence on the Obolon court of the highest echelons - the Prosecutor General's Office, the presidential administration. Now this information, on the instructions of Yanukovych, is being actively transferred to our English colleagues and partners, who will initiate at the international level bringing the relevant persons to justice,” Serdyuk said.
He noted that for the first time, the court, on a direct command from the highest government offices, publicly denied the opportunity to question witnesses and familiarize itself with materials collected by the defense.
“In particular, due to the need to complete the case by a clearly defined deadline, the interrogation of the first president of the country, who wanted to talk about the information he had about plans to assassinate Yanukovych in February 2014, codenamed “Ceausescu,” was refused. The court categorically does not allow representatives of the current government to interrogate Georgian snipers who clearly indicate involvement in the executions of our citizens on the Maidan on February 20, 2014. The court denies the opportunity to interrogate ex-deputy Andrei Artemenko, who is an eyewitness to the killings on the Maidan by snipers who shot in both directions,” the lawyer emphasized.
In addition, he called Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko “the main organizer of this crime, who is a defendant in the Maidan case, the case of the loss of Crimea, who on February 19, 2014, a few hours before the execution of our fellow citizens from the Maidan, said that weapons were already on their way to us and We are talking about weapons that were stolen in the Western regions of Ukraine.”
According to Serdyuk, the authorities do not want to hear the other side about the events of 2014, and therefore Yanukovych’s defenders are removed from participation in the process and a state lawyer is introduced “to support the Prosecutor General’s Office.”
