Kyiv, May 13 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – On Monday, a regular court hearing was held in Kyiv to ban the activities of the Russian Bloc party.

The trial was initiated by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, stating that it considered the points of the party program on supporting the state status of the Russian language, federalization and the canonical Orthodox Church to be inconsistent with the law.

At the court hearing: Deputy Head of the Ministry of Justice Anna Onishchenko reads out quotes about the fight of the Russian Bloc against Bandera’s evil spirits

At a meeting on Monday, Deputy Minister Anna Onishchenko provided recordings of speeches by the leaders of the Russian Bloc, which, according to the official, prove the need to ban the party.

“We finally understand who the representatives of the defendant mean by ‘Bandera’s’.” Today we will provide a video, I want to quote, a public speech by Gennady Basov, where he points out: “I am a categorical opponent of Yatsenyuk and others in power. This is unacceptable - I believe that you cannot negotiate with Bandera - about anything!” That is, in principle, it is clear that by “Bandera’s people” they mean the current government,” Onishchenko said.

She further mentioned another video where “party leader Basov calls for the creation of structures that will fight “for federalization, the state status of the Russian language and the protection of the population of the South-East from Bandera’s evil spirits.”

“We understand who we are talking about. That is, we can conclude that this is a call for the overthrow of the official government,” the representative of the Ministry of Justice was indignant.

Officials also did not like Basov’s statement “the so-called presidential elections in Ukraine” - “that is, with this statement Gennady Basov questions the legitimacy of the elections scheduled for the 25th,” Onishchenko claims.

She also showed a video where Basov, during the unrest in Sevastopol last winter, stated the need to help like-minded people in Simferopol in order to achieve the resignation of the government of Anatoly Mogilev and its replacement with a real Crimean government.

Onishchenko stated that the Ministry of Justice interprets such words from the leader of the “Russian Bloc” as “a change of power by force to a power that will not obey the Verkhovna Rada.”

The official also mentioned a recent interview with the leader of the Russian Bloc in Donbass, Natalya Bilotserkovskaya, where she stated that Kyiv will never be able to command the region.

“This is evidence of a lack of perception of the current government and, in fact, we regard it as a call for a change of state power in the Donbass,” said a representative of the Ministry of Justice.

Another argument was the spread by activists of the “Russian Bloc” in Nikolaev in support of the referendum in Crimea.

In addition, the Ministry of Justice interpreted as “an attempt to incite ethnic hatred” and the action of the “Russian Bloc” to transfer to the nationalists “a shovel with two ends for digging caches” in Galicia.

Onishchenko emphasized that the above-mentioned action of the “Russian Bloc” is a “brutal mockery” of the position of the Ternopil Regional Council.

Representatives of the Russian Bloc, in turn, rejected the accusations against them.

Party members stated that the website of the Russian Bloc, the materials of which are referred to in the Ministry of Justice, is not registered as an official resource of the party, but is the personal page of Gennady Basov, therefore, the articles published there are not the position of RB.

Officials of the Ministry of Justice collected printouts from the Internet and excerpts from newspapers with quotes from speeches by Gennady Basov

It was planned that party leader Gennady Basov would be interrogated via videoconference, which was to be provided on the basis of the District Administrative Court of the city of Sevastopol. But due to technical problems, the video conference could not be organized.

“We do not agree with the accusations against the Russian Bloc. The Ministry of Justice even cited as a complaint the fact that at the “Russian Bloc” rally someone stood with Russian flags. But when the flags of Georgia or the European Union are unfurled on Maidan, this is normal for the Ministry of Justice,” Basov told Navigator over the phone.

He also recalled that according to the laws and charter, the party position can only be voiced by the congress, the political council or the chairman of the Republic of Belarus, but not by individual activists or leaders of regional organizations.

According to the court's decision, debate on the case should continue on May 13, 2014.
