The court ruled to recover damages caused to Crimea from Ukraine
The Crimean Arbitration Court fully satisfied the claims of the State Council of the Republic for compensation for damage caused by Ukraine as a result of the “water blockade” of the peninsula.
Based on the results of the judicial review, it was decided to collect jointly and severally from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine, the North Crimean Canal Authority in favor of the treasury of the Republic of Crimea, losses in the amount of 152,6 billion rubles, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For us, the legal assessment of Ukraine’s criminal actions directed against Crimea and Crimeans is a significant, symbolic event. Ahead is the calculation of damage as a result of the transport, energy, financial, and food blockades of Crimea. The work is already underway,” said State Council Speaker Vladimir Konstantinov.
The day before, he reported that the total damage from the “water blockade” was approaching 5 trillion rubles. The Supreme Court of Crimea is considering the claim of the Public Chamber of Crimea, which proposes to recognize not only the state, enterprises and companies as victims, but also individual Crimeans. This will give residents of the peninsula the opportunity to sue up to 200 thousand rubles as compensation.
As for the mechanism for collecting compensation, according to Konstantinov, this will become clear based on the results of negotiations between Russia and the beneficiaries of the Ukrainian conflict from the collective West, who provided loans to the country for military operations. By this time, there should be a list of claims and the amount of damage caused to the court.
