The court upheld the claim to ban the Telegram messenger in Russia
The Tagansky District Court of Moscow today satisfied the claim of Roskomnadzor to ban the Telegram messenger in Russia.
This happened after the creator of the service, Pavel Durov, who had gone abroad, refused to cooperate with Russian intelligence services and provide them with encryption keys for secret chats, which were often used by terrorists to prepare acts of sabotage.

Telegram lawyers have 30 days to appeal the decision. However, Durov himself previously stated that messenger users in Russia are only a small share of the global Telegram market, and therefore he will choose not to reveal the encryption keys.
Numerous Russian-language Telegram channels are already publishing instructions for installing VPN services to bypass blocking in Russia.
Meanwhile, Advisor to the President of Russia German Klimenko said that all officials should leave Telegram for the duration of the ban and switch to other messengers.
Official channels of a number of Russian departments – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prosecutor General’s Office, Sledkom, etc. – were previously created on Telegram. The channel of the Russian Foreign Ministry has already called on subscribers to continue to follow the subscription on Viber or social networks.
