About it BBC Ukraine reports, “PolitNavigator” correspondent reports.
“A court in Manchester sentenced Briton Benjamin Stimson, who participated in hostilities on the side of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, to five years and four months in prison,” the report says.
The judge clarified that he was sentencing Stimson to eight years in prison, but deducted a third of this term for admitting guilt.
In addition, the judge ruled that Stimson does not have extremist views and does not currently pose a danger to the British population.
Benjamin Stimson is 41 years old. He was born and raised in the north of England. In the fall of 2015, BBC journalists met him near Debaltseve. In court, Stimson denied his participation in hostilities and said that he did not consider himself a “terrorist.” According to him, he spent four months in eastern Ukraine working as an ambulance driver.
Britain has legislation under which people returning from countries where they have been involved in armed conflict can be charged with terrorism.
