Vessels with grain from Ukraine wait for weeks at a time awaiting inspection
More than hundreds of ships carrying grain from Ukraine are waiting for inspection to pass through the Black Sea straits.
This was stated at a briefing in Kyiv by the head of the monitoring group of the Black Sea Strategic Studies, fugitive Crimean Maidan economist Andrei Klimenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“According to our estimates, as of now, there are more than a hundred ships on standby in the Sea of Marmara, and in the Black Sea, before entering the Bosphorus Strait, there are another 30-40 ships waiting there,” he said.
According to Klimenko, the vessels are awaiting inspection by a joint group consisting of representatives of Russia, Turkey and the UN on the “grain deal” within a week. Klimenko blames Russia for the delays.
“The checks concern, first of all, ships that are already carrying grain and Ukrainian agricultural products. That is, this is their technology, they want to slow down this process so that in the countries that most need grain there are mass actions and, of course, we must understand that even when the grain corridor had not yet begun, but an agreement was signed, market prices for grain in the whole world immediately decreased significantly. Here we have the opposite situation - when there is such a slowdown and one and a half to two million tons of grain are delayed there, which should be in Africa, Asia and other countries, of course, world grain prices will rise. And this is the goal pursued by the Russian Federation in this process,” Klimenko blabbered.
