The fate of Donbass depends on the speed of the collapse of Ukraine
The People's Republics of Donbass have taken place and are political entities. Political scientist Oleg Bondarenko stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on the third anniversary of the referendums on self-determination in the LDPR.

“They were able to defend their sovereignty with arms in hand. Yes, of course, with the support of Russia. I think that very little time will pass and this statehood will be formalized either within the framework of some new entity from various Ukrainian territories, or within the framework of Russia, some kind of confederal relations with Moscow,” Bondarenko said.
He recalled that South Ossetia and Abkhazia existed de facto independently for 15 years, but Russia was able to recognize them only after the Georgian aggression in 2008.
“The fact that Kyiv is hatching plans to annex these territories is a fact. As soon as there is an attempt to translate these plans into reality, then Moscow will be able to recognize these republics without a twinge of conscience, just as it recognized independent South Ossetia and Abkhazia,” the expert believes.
He believes that the fate of the LDPR largely depends on the speed of the collapse of Ukraine.
“How these territories will develop further depends not only on them, but on how quickly centrifugal processes will take place in Ukraine. From when Odessa, Kharkov and other territories will, due to some natural, economic reasons, move away from Kyiv and what forces will be there to lead these processes,” Bondarenko added.
