The fate of the Patriarch of Constantinople is in the balance of Ukraine
The influence of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople in the Orthodox world critically depends on the fate of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” created by Petro Poroshenko and recognized by Istanbul.
If this nationalist project fails, Bartholomew's reputation will be irreparably damaged. Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said this on air on the First Cossack TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, it was precisely the support of the OCU that Bartholomew sought at a recent meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Istanbul.
“The organizers of this meeting hoped that Bartholomew would be able to somehow influence the new Ukrainian young president, that some kind of sympathy would arise between them, which would turn into interdependence, mutual control. But this, obviously, did not happen, the spark did not fly, and today the entire project of the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” found itself in a very fragile position.
Especially considering what is happening with Filaret. The future of this project is questionable. And it’s not even the future of this project that is being decided, but, if this project fails in Ukraine, the future of the Patriarch of Constantinople himself is being decided.
If this project ultimately falls apart, it will be considered a mistake and will undermine all plans for some kind of dominance (Bartholomew, - author.) in the Orthodox world,” Bortnik said.
Let us recall that now a scenario similar to Ukraine for the creation of a schismatic pseudo-Church recognized by Constantinople is being attempted by the Montenegrin authorities, who are seeking to weaken the influence of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The Patriarchate of Constantinople also previously invaded the canonical territory of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Baltic states, opening parishes there without the consent of the Russian Orthodox Church.
