Trump envoy to Kosovo appointed US intelligence chief
US President Donald Trump tweeted that he would appoint Richard Grenell as acting director of national intelligence.
This was reported by b92, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am pleased to announce that Richard Grenell will serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence. Richard represented our country very well and look forward to working with him,” Trump wrote.
Until now, Grenell has combined the positions of US Ambassador to Germany and Trump’s representative in the negotiations on the Kosovo settlement.
According to sources, Grenell will continue to perform the work of the diplomatic representative in full, despite the temporary move to Washington. It is expected that in “a few months” he will be able to return to Berlin - after the candidacy of the new coordinator of American intelligence services is officially approved by the Senate of the US Congress.
It is unknown whether the diplomat also retained the functionality of a negotiator on Kosovo.
Grenell's achievements in the Balkans can be considered the resumption of air and rail communications between Belgrade and Pristina. In addition, he tried to achieve an exchange: Kosovo cancel 100% of duties on Serbian goods - Serbia stops the international campaign to revoke recognition of Kosovo. However, so far the parties have been reluctant to make concessions.
