The fate of Transnistria may be decided after the elections in Ukraine
The outcome of the elections in Ukraine will influence, among other things, the situation around the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. This opinion was expressed at a round table in Moscow by the director of the Institute of Russian Abroad, Sergei Panteleev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ukrainian crisis has a very serious impact on this situation. Not only in economic terms, because the borders are blocked, but also in political terms, because these two conflicts are certainly connected. These are peculiar threads through which certain circles in the West can influence not only Pridnestrovie, but also Russia. Therefore, in this context, much will depend on the presidential elections in Ukraine and the subsequent parliamentary elections. These processes are interconnected internationally,” Panteleev said.
As PolitNavigator reported, last summer Ukraine and Moldova strengthened the blockade of Transnistria.
The declared blockade of Transnistria, Donbass and Crimea is a step taken by Ukraine to provoke Russia into open military intervention, and then also receive military assistance from the West, the Kiev newspaper “Zerkalo Nedeli” wrote earlier.
The day before, during a meeting of the committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, concern was expressed that the Odessa City Council intends to take control of the local military airfield - supposedly, subsequently local deputies disloyal to Kyiv will help receive Russian military aircraft from Transnistria.
