The fate of Transnistria is connected with the decision on Novorossiya
The settlement of relations with Transnistria does not depend on the results of the parliamentary elections held in Moldova - the fate of the unrecognized republic depends on how the Ukrainian crisis is resolved.
Expert of the Russian International Affairs Council Alexander Gushchin stated this today at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There will be no serious progress regarding the Transnistrian settlement, because the Transnistrian issue is included in the international context: the context of the Ukrainian crisis and relations between Russia and the West. Therefore, it must be included in the puzzle of the overall settlement,” Gushchin said.
It is critically important for Russia to preserve military units in the PMR, recalled the director of the Institute of Russian Abroad Sergei Panteleev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“All this is kept in the orbit of Russian influence only due to our military presence. It is the anchor that still holds Transnistria and, to some extent, Moldova in Russia’s sphere of influence,” Panteleev said.
