LPR courts sentenced 2,2 thousand people in six months

Over the six months of 2016, LPR courts sentenced more than 2,2 thousand defendants to various punishments, 40% of those convicted received a sentence of imprisonment.

This was reported by the press service of the LPR Prosecutor General's Office.

“Over the six months of 2016, 2215 persons were convicted, of which: 891 persons were sentenced to real punishment in the form of imprisonment or arrest - 40% of the total number of convicted persons. 1094 persons were conditionally sentenced - 49,4% of the total number of convicts, the remaining 10,4% - 231 persons - were sentenced to other penalties,” the report says.

“The study of judicial repression for serious and especially serious crimes has established that during this period, 779 persons were convicted for these crimes - 35,2% of the total number of convicts. Of these, 553 persons were sentenced to actual punishment in the form of imprisonment or arrest, 225 persons were given suspended sentences, and one person was given a fine,” the prosecutor’s office added.

Let us recall that on April 30, 2015, the head of the LPR, Igor Plotnitsky, signed the laws “On the Judicial System” and “On the Establishment of LPR Courts,” which served as the starting point for the formation of the judicial branch of power of the Lugansk People’s Republic.
