“The only way to resolve the impasse in eastern Ukraine is to reunite it with Russia. And Vladimir Putin, with his mysterious smile, is simply waiting for this to happen one way or another,” he writes.
The columnist accuses Western politicians of starting a war in Ukraine:
“Only because they wanted to see not a pro-Russian Yanukovych in power, but their own, pro-European one, they put their puppet in power with the help of a coup. The reaction of the Russian-speaking Crimea and the South-East was easy to predict. After all, these people did not want to be controlled from distant and incomprehensible Brussels. Moscow was much closer to them. When the confrontation grew into an open conflict, Western leaders took a very dangerous path, calling the reunification of Crimea with Russia “an act of aggression” (John Kerry) and comparing V. Putin with Hitler (Prince Charles). Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton spoke on the Maidan in front of a crowd of two hundred thousand.
The West managed to unleash a massacre in which more than nine thousand people died, but is shamefully, humiliatingly powerless to solve the problem,” the publication says.
“Is there another tragedy in the modern world that could be caused by Western politicians intervening and turning everything upside down?” asks Christopher Booker.
