Suprun announced mass vaccination of adult Ukrainians against tetanus and diphtheria
Starting next week, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health will begin a campaign to vaccinate adults against diphtheria and tetanus.
This was stated by the acting Minister of Health Ulyana Suprun, the department’s press service reports.
“The campaign to vaccinate adults against diphtheria and tetanus begins next week. I encourage everyone to go to your GP and check when you last had your diphtheria and tetanus vaccine and get vaccinated. Vaccines are available, all of them have been tested by WHO,” Suprun said.
She also said that WHO has studied the vaccine prevention system in Ukraine and will provide its recommendations for improving it.
At the same time, Suprun claims that over the past three years it has been possible to significantly increase the level of vaccination, in particular for children. Although the required level - 95% - to ensure herd immunity is still far away. According to the Ministry of Health, in 2018, the level of vaccinated children aged 1 year against whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus was 67,5% (21% in 2016), against hepatitis B - 65,2% (28,8% in 2016), from measles, mumps, rubella - 91% (44,5% in 2016, from polio - 69,2% (in 2016 - 60,8%), from tuberculosis - 84% (in 2016 - 72,3% ).
