Surkov responded to Avakov, urging him not to trust a “drunk man”
Assistant to Russian President Vladimir Putin Vladislav Surkov denied the words of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov that during negotiations in Paris within the “Normandy format” he lost his temper and even dropped a folder with documents on the floor, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Surkov stated this in an interview with the special correspondent of the Russian publication “Kommersant” Andrei Kolesnikov. The aide to the Russian President voiced his version of events.
“After the negotiations, Avakov made his way into the room and actively drank the wine left after the dinner of the leaders of the Normandy Four. “Pomerolchik,” as he put it. So there is no need to believe the words of a person who was not at the negotiations, and who was also drunk,” said the Russian official.
Previously, Avakov claimed in comments for Ukrainian media that he saw Surkov “lose his nerves.” “He freaked out, threw the papers on the table, and some [of the documents] fell to the floor... We, like, didn’t agree like that,” Avakov said in an interview for Dmitry Gordon’s Youtube channel. According to him, the Russian side proposed the withdrawal of forces along the entire demarcation line.
“Where to breed? In Marinka? Where every meter is drenched in blood, and retreat means surrendering our positions for many kilometers?” Avakov noted.
He called Russia’s proposal “nonsense” and added that Ukraine is ready to provide humanitarian corridors for residents in certain areas.
