Surkov will continue to oversee the Ukrainian direction - Zatulin
Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov will most likely conduct negotiations with former US representative to NATO Kurt Volker, who has been appointed special representative of the United States for Ukraine.

This is the opinion in the commentary to “Moskovsky Komsomolets” expressed Head of the Institute of CIS Countries, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Konstantin Zatulin.
“I do not rule out that Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladislav Surkov will remain the representative of Russia. He was Nuland’s partner, and, as far as I know, he is still in charge of the Ukrainian issue in the Presidential Administration. I am not overly optimistic about Volcker's appointment, given the inertia and opposition that is encountered in any attempt to reach mutual understanding between our countries on sensitive issues, especially Ukraine. There is a very long distance from the appointment of special representatives to concrete decisions. In addition, I am not sure that Washington has abandoned its previous line in the Ukrainian crisis, which boils down to the fact that the more problems there are in this region, the weaker the position of Russia and Europe as a whole,” Zatulin said.
At the same time, he added that any rapprochement of positions or at least mutual information will have a positive impact.
