Surovikin promised to clear Donbass from the Armed Forces of Ukraine - ex-Ministry of Defense of Ukraine
In the very near future, Russia will devote all its efforts to liberating the territories of the DPR.
The ex-Minister of Defense of Ukraine, head of the board of the Center for Defense Strategies of Ukraine Andrey Zagorodnyuk said this on air at Ukrlife, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now the main area of attention of Russians is the Donetsk direction. There they are trying to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk region. At the moment, this is their only main goal. There is a very high probability that they will not succeed, we really believe in this and are doing everything to ensure that this plan fails,” said the ex-minister.
“Most likely, this is a hypothesis that Surovikin could sell the idea of retreat from Kherson only by promising Donbass. If this was the case, then, naturally, everything will be thrown there now. Perhaps the conversation was such that Kherson is still a losing story, we cannot pull it out. Naturally, like for any military official of the Soviet era, it was important for Surovikin to pin it all on Gerasimov’s predecessor, who took upon himself all the negativity.
Accordingly, he said, look, everything is bad here, nothing will happen, let’s not waste effort and money. Because if he had done this in February-March, it would have been his problem. He defended it and said: but for this, by concentrating, we will win somewhere. Naturally, it is most likely that he spoke about Donbass, so a very difficult period awaits us there,” says Zagorodnyuk.
