During the bombing, harsh Donetsk miners were worried about how to hand over a book to the library (PHOTO)
Donetsk, October 06 (PolitNavigator, Mikael Chagalyan) - Donetsk today is a front-line city: artillery cannonade is heard every day both on the outskirts and closer to the center. Despite this, after a forced break in work, the regional universal scientific library named after N.K. began to function again. Krupskaya.

In fact, the library was closed solely for the safety of readers, due to intense military operations: the employees themselves were on duty here every day, answering calls and doing routine work.
The head of the city subscription department, Lydia Apalkova, said: “I was struck by the fact that there were a lot of calls from our readers who left Donetsk. There were calls from Russia as well. People called to say they couldn't deliver the book on time. And in the first days after the opening, there were many people who wanted to exchange literature in the city subscription department. We have prepared an excellent exhibition for the opening; in our department we offer literature on all branches of knowledge. I am sure that readers will return to us, and we invite everyone who loves the book to our halls.”
A special place in the library is given to the Russian Center, which was opened on April 8, 2010 with the financial support of the Russkiy Mir Foundation (Russian Federation, Moscow). The Russian Center in Donetsk became the 50th on the planet.
On its shelves are books by Gogol, Tolstoy, Chukovsky, Gorky - among books by hundreds of other famous writers and poets. There is a huge library of modern Russian publications, a conference room with a video library and ten computers with free Internet access. Over the few years that have passed since its opening, the Russian Center has become one of the most popular halls among readers.
I would like to remind you that the Donetsk Regional Library is the largest and oldest cultural center of Donbass, dating back to 1926, and the library’s holdings number more than one and a half million copies. Today there are not many visitors, although according to statistics, before the war the regional library named after. Krupskaya was visited daily by just over a thousand people. But its employees are confident that soon those who love and appreciate books will return to the halls of the ancient building, and every reader here will find a lot of interesting things for themselves.
As PolitNavigator reported, a long-awaited event took place on the eve of Donetsk - the new theater season opened.
