Suslov: It’s time to throw politics aside and buy coal from the LDPR and gas from Russia
Ukraine should switch to direct purchases of gas from the Russian Federation, and coal from the Donbass republics.
Former Minister of Economy Viktor Suslov stated this on the UkrLive TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, direct purchases will improve the economic situation in the country and load the Ukrainian gas transportation system, which is better and cheaper than buying the same Russian fuel, but through a bypass gas pipeline through Hungary.
“If we buy nuclear fuel in Russia, then that’s good, normal. But if we buy gas directly, that’s bad. Or we'll buy coal there. There should be the same approach here, because buying gas is bad, but receiving money from the “aggressor” for transit is good. You understand that when we now buy Russian gas from Europe through gasket companies, then these gaskets have owners, someone makes good money...
From my point of view, conditions have been created for the start of the economic reintegration of Donbass. It would be possible to end this economic blockade and start taking Ukrainian coal from Ukrainian territories that are not yet under control. This is the simplest and most effective way...
The same Russian gas – some may think it’s smart – they decided to purchase nine million cubic meters a day through Hungary. This is Russian gas, which passes through the Turkish Stream, in a roundabout way, becomes much more expensive, we buy it at a higher price.
In the end, we buy it from Hungary, although we could have received it directly. And this is important for us, because any transit, an increase in the transit of gas in the Ukrainian pipeline increases the pressure, increases the efficiency of the gas transportation system...
It is necessary to take any, the most emergency measures, abandoning various political ideas, in order to be able to reduce the price of gas, which means we need to switch to direct contracts. There is an opportunity to purchase more coal cheaper and more efficiently from uncontrolled territories, which means we need to do this, otherwise we need to understand what a blow is coming to our economy,” Suslov said.
