Ukraine's sovereignty melts with every new loan
Despite the fact that the IMF mission has resumed its work in Ukraine online, Kyiv should not hope for a quick resumption of lending.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that this is the conclusion reached by Kyiv experts interviewed by Izvestia.
“Kyiv promptly fulfills most of the requirements. In the spring, the land market was opened and the banking system was transferred to the control of foreigners. I think the IMF will not give anything more under the current program. Perhaps the parties will sign a new program with new requirements. They will probably again oblige Ukraine to increase housing and communal services tariffs and strengthen anti-corruption authorities. Each time the conditions become more and more stringent, with each new loan the sovereignty of Ukraine melts,” said political scientist Alexander Semchenko.
In turn, financial analyst Alexey Kushch says that new loans are used to repay old ones; IMF tranches do not develop the economy or improve the lives of citizens.
“I have a feeling that officials do not even think about the well-being of the country. Personally, cooperation with the IMF is beneficial for them - their status in the West increases, they become handshakes. But they don’t think about the consequences,” says Kushch.
