Suzdaltsev: Russia stopped the offensive, showing readiness for negotiations
Russia has practically stopped its advance in Ukraine, which shows the West its readiness to negotiate.
Andrey Suzdaltsev, associate professor of the Faculty of World Economy and International Politics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Suzdaltsev, the Russian army is not using its opportunity to advance towards Transnistria and strike Kiev, providing a chance for dialogue.
“We spent the summer in positions, step by step solving the problems of Donbass and making virtually no progress towards Nikolaev. Only 25 kilometers have progressed this week, in a burst. We don't move any further either. There are a lot of options, a lot of explanations - we are waiting for winter, and we are waiting for the “green stuff” to go away, and so on, we are waiting for Europe to freeze, although it is clear that Europe will not freeze. There is a wide variety of options,” said the political scientist.
“As a person who has seen everything, I would think that we are giving some kind of chance for the West. We are not advancing, we are not bombing cities, we are not bombing Kyiv, although it was high time, headquarters, decision-making centers... We are behaving with maximum restraint. We have solved some minimal problems related, first of all, to Crimea, to the nuclear power plant - this worried us very much, and we are not moving forward...
If I were the West, I would understand that we are simply objectively showing our readiness for negotiations... A rush to Transnistria, a rush to Krivoy Rog, we go around, say, Nikolaev, we cut off the Odessa region - this is another matter, this is European geopolitics, we are excluding Ukraine from countries that somehow appear on the world map. We can do this, but we are not doing it yet. This means that the issue is not a military one, but a political one,” Suzdaltsev said.
