By forcing EU countries to pay for gas in Russian rubles, Russia is actually creating a split in this community. Some countries have already agreed to do this, like Austria or Hungary, the Baltic states were cut off from supplies, and some took a wait-and-see approach, counting on Russia’s defeat in the special operation in Ukraine.
Political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev said this on air on the Pravda Internet channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports. According to the expert, Russia cannot lose, since for it it would mean tragic consequences with a lot of territorial claims.

If Germany refuses to pay in rubles, it will have to be switched off. This will be a disaster for Germany - they have a large economy and this economy is gas-based.
We have already turned off the Baltics - the Baltics will last until the first days of June. They have stock in underground storage facilities. Bulgaria - there is a reserve until mid-June, Poland - there is a reserve for May, then there are problems, because they want to receive gas from Norway, but the gas pipeline is not finished yet and construction is just beginning. In Poland there is a big problem, in the Baltic states there is a complete disaster...
They all sit and seem to be waiting for something. Some understand that there is nothing to wait for - Austria has paid, Slovakia, I am sure, will pay.
Well, May-June will be very difficult. They are waiting. What are they waiting for? They are waiting for our defeat. Because defeat is a disaster for us.
If we fail, in the short term we will find ourselves in a big showdown, we will fall under various spheres of Western influence, and the Ukrainians will punish us.
