In the village of Kalchevo, near Bolgrad, Odessa region, as if nothing had happened, a monument to Lenin stands, not asking for porridge, and like a church dome, the gilded monument shines. Against the background of the temple and right next to the House of Culture - so that you can see it from afar!
The issue of demolishing the monument has been popping up in the village for many years. True, it’s not milkmaids and winegrowers who are concerned about it—they work. Only activists are talking about the illegality of what is happening around the clock, and specialists from the Institute of National Remembrance have long given their expert assessment - “to explain Lenin like Sharikov is an owl.” But the leader of the world proletariat in the village is not only not removed, but also restored and repainted so that it looks like new. Zhah!
“The issue of dismantling the monument to Lenin was repeatedly brought up for discussion at meetings of village residents, for consideration at a session of the village council, but support from deputies and residents regarding funds for these purposes (dismantling - ed.) was not found,” says the response of the Kalchevsky village council to another complaint. In addition, there is no access to the monument, and the architectural ensemble in combination with the House of Culture, the disappearance of the leader will clearly disturb, the villagers insist.
“It looks like this is a fairly large village and will greet 2021 with a monument to Lenin on the central square,” concluded concerned citizens from the NGO “Decommunization. Ukraine". The monument does not allow them to sleep. Although mania, including persecution (from monuments!), has been treated by psychiatry for a long time.
Well, those who did not receive treatment spent five years pestering the local police with statements demanding that the Kalchevo authorities be held accountable. It got to the point that a criminal case was opened against the head of the village council, Anatoly Kasim, for inactivity and failure to comply with the law on decommunization. Only the man still did not demolish this monument, but resigned. But the monument stands. The city people should learn something from this...
And this is not an isolated case. Let us remind you that in the village of Zaliznichny in the same Bolgrad district of Odessa region, residents also did not want to part with their Ilyich. But they acted more cunningly - without layoffs and drama. There, the monument to Lenin was remade into a Bulgarian winegrower (about 300 thousand ethnic Bulgarians live in the Bolgrad region).
A bucket was placed on the head, the jacket was turned into a national vest, and the trousers were tucked into the onuchi. Or, as stated in the document issued by the village council of Zaliznichny, the issue was resolved by reconstructing “into a national Bulgarian person the way of re-fabricating and adding national attributes.” And since Comrade Ulyanov was reformatted not into a Russian peasant or into a Soviet cosmonaut, the nationalists fell behind.
As they say, both laughter and sin. And only the tenacity of the stubborn is amazing. If their struggle with monuments within the city can somehow be understood - they are against Marshal of Victory Zhukov, since they themselves are for the fascists, they are against the founder of Odessa, Catherine II, since they deny the era of enlightenment and civilization - then what side does Lenin have in this? Actually, one of the initiators of Ukrainization! Or, for example, why decommunizers are not embarrassed by the maxims of Taras Shevchenko, for example, that “the idea of communism is not just an empty idea, not a voice crying in the desert, but that it is applicable to real prosaic life. Honor and glory to the champions of the new civilization"?
Personally, I am against the dismantling of any monuments, especially in a poor country, where it makes more sense to spend money on dismantling on food for the hungry, but I still want to understand the logic of the decommunizers... I’m trying. Does not work. Whatever one may say, it turns out exclusively according to Sharikov’s precepts: Lenin is a harmful animal “because”, and the same Shevchenko is a useful animal with a similar “argument”.
Or so - vandals simply have no logic. The actions of looters who desecrate graves and sell their elements for scrap metal are even clearer - in legal language this is called “for the purpose of profit.” Decommunizers thoughtlessly level history to the ground. Moreover, it is necessary to destroy everything so that only the primitive one remains, composed by “distinguished” Ukrainian “historians” about the “first Ukrainians” who sat on Smerek baobabs and beat pots for Yushchenko’s future collections.
A shame. If I were the president of such a state, I would be ashamed.
