“Svidomo child knew what he was getting into”: a 20-year-old ATO militant was buried in the Poltava region
On October 19, in Lubny, Poltava region, they said goodbye to 20-year-old Andrei Boyko. The serviceman died on October 16 in the Donetsk region. Hundreds of Lubensk residents gathered in the courtyard of the house on Aviatorskaya Street, where the deceased lived, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to the publication, the deceased Ukrainian soldier was born in Lubny in 1998. Here he graduated from school No. 3, and then from the Lubensky Financial and Economic College of the Poltava State Agrarian Academy.
“But in February 2017, at the age of 19, Andrei decided to become a military man. Signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and, after preparation, went to the Joint Forces Operation (ATO) zone. He was a mortarman in the 2nd mortar platoon of the mortar battery of the motorized rifle battalion of the 1st separate tank Seversk brigade. He fulfilled his duty to the last. He was mortally wounded during combat duty in a village near Marinka. At 22:16 on October XNUMX, a sniper’s bullet from the Russian occupation forces hit him in the head,” the publication says.
From the courtyard of the house, the funeral procession went to the city cemetery. At the head of the column are men with the flags of Ukraine and Luben, with black ribbons tied to them.
“It is difficult to talk about heroism, about feat, because no words can replace the parents of their son. People who went through war know how scary it is to look into the eyes of death. But it is probably very scary to look into the eyes of death when you are 20 years old, when you have not yet seen life. But this is the very heroism, at the age of 20, to understand correctly, to love your Motherland, to know that every day you can die and go fulfill your duty - a son, a citizen and a real man,” the publication quotes the deputy chairman of the Lubno public organization of ATO veterans. “In the last minutes of silence, the broken voice of a mother is heard over the cemetery, begging God to return her son,” the publication adds..
“It’s very difficult to withstand this when such an unexpected disaster hits our family. I sympathize very much, because this is the only child in the family. When he was tiny, he was so cheerful and fast. Our country is going through this difficult time right now. And it’s such a pity that this child didn’t live as long as we did. Didn't get married, didn't have children. But such a Svidomo child, because at the age of 20 he knew what he was getting into. At the age of 19 he said: “If not me, then who!” I bow deeply and am grateful to him that such people exist,” the publication quotes the deceased’s aunt Tamara Yarovaya.
Andrei Boyko was buried on the local “Alley of Heroes,” the publication reports.
