This is evidenced by the bill “On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations,” submitted to the Rada by Yuriy Levchenko, Oleg Osukhovsky, Andrey Ilyenko, Yuriy Bublik, Alexander Marchenko, Mikhail Golovko and Sergey Rudik.
“Currently, there are religious organizations in Ukraine that are used to mislead people and instill certain ideals and dogmas that often do not correspond to the worldview of the person himself. It’s even worse when, under the guise of good intentions, certain religious organizations actually help incite ethnic hatred and undermine the sovereignty of Ukraine,” the explanatory note says.
“The name of a religious organization whose governing center is located outside of Ukraine must reflect the name of the religious organization that is its governing center,” the proposed changes say.
Let us note that in the summer, the Svoboda faction in the Verkhovna Rada raised the issue of renaming the UOC-MP “in accordance with its constituent documents and the Charter of the Russian Orthodox Church.”
As a result, it can be assumed that the changes in the law are directed, first of all, against the UOC-MP. However, if adopted, they may also affect a number of other religious organizations, for example, Jehovah's Witnesses, which are controlled from the United States.
