Participants in the action are protesting against the collapse of Ukraine’s agriculture, for which the current Minister of Agriculture Igor Shvaika, appointed under the Svoboda quota, is accused.

Several dozen workers of agricultural enterprises in the Kiev region are on a hunger strike under the walls of the Administration of the President of Ukraine. They are protesting against raider land grabs and the collapse of agricultural enterprises. According to those gathered, they had already addressed the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Igor Shvaika, but to no avail. Now they are demanding that a representative of the presidential administration come to them.

“We have already visited the Minister of Agrarian Policy several times. We, the initiative group, were invited for three hours, and we waited until nine in the evening. The second time he did not come. On the third day they told us that he couldn’t... We would starve for four days. Maybe they’ll pay attention to us this way,” says activist Nikolai Shevchenko, an employee of the Novoselki state farm. – Our enterprise is being destroyed at its roots. Our people are fighting there in the east, and here they are, like jackals, plundering the entire country from the inside. We thought that the Svoboda party was for the people, but they were even worse than Putin. This one is going at least openly, but these are quietly destroying our economy from the inside. They are destroying rural enterprises - the Obukhovsky state farm, Novoselki, Pushcha-Voditsa... The Obukhovsky state farm has almost been destroyed over the past two months. Do you understand what we're talking about? Hundreds, thousands of people were thrown onto the street.

We submitted an appeal to the president, but nothing changes. Was there a reaction? Was. The day before yesterday Shvaika hired his bandits, they came to our activist and almost burned his property. With Molotov cocktails, with body armor... The soldiers in the east don’t have body armor, but these bandits here wear body armor.”

“They are going to build some kind of entertainment or shopping complex on the lands of our agricultural complex,” says Oksana Balaguta, an employee of the Pushcha-Voditsa agricultural complex. – The Lipinka residential complex has already been built on our land. Once upon a time, when a city construction project was built on our land, we were allocated at least some apartments. We know that Shvaika signed documents with the developer “Capital Group” to allocate 200 hectares for development. All these scams are happening behind our backs. Our “southern slope” department, where there were greenhouses under film, was destroyed. Everything is destroyed. We had excellent beekeeping, everything was destroyed.

We only want to restore the enterprise. We have so many people, but everything is decided by management behind closed doors. “They took over” everything - the kindergarten, the school that we had at the enterprise, and the apartments - they took it all for themselves, behind closed doors, without gathering a working team.

As a result of the collapse of agriculture, the people of Kiev are also suffering: “Remember how cheap cucumbers were? And now? 9-10 hryvnia. With my pension of 1180 UAH, I cannot afford to buy cucumbers. But our agricultural complex provided Kyiv with everything - from potatoes to grapes. We also had our own livestock farm, but the cows and pigs were slaughtered and the processing plant was closed,” says Oksana Balaguta.

Let us note that the picket of peasants could have been stimulated - as Navigator already reported, the agrarian oligarch Oleg Bakhmatyuk is vying for Shvaika’s seat.
