After coming to power, Svoboda changed its position regarding shale gas production
Kyiv, April 21 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – After coming to power, the Ukrainian nationalist party “Svoboda” “drastically changed its rhetoric” regarding shale gas projects, which the political force criticized for harming the environment while in opposition.
The metamorphosis of the position of Oleg Tyagnibok’s associates is noted by the Kiev “Investgazeta” - now “Svoboda” is quite favorable to the plans of the American Chevron and the Anglo-Dutch Shell.

The new Minister of Ecology, Svoboda member Andrei Mokhnik, according to the newspaper, “quickly reached an agreement” with Western companies, although recently Ukrainian nationalists held protest rallies, arguing that the development of shale gas poses a threat to the environment.
The new government put forward two main conditions - additional environmental monitoring and the exclusion from the agreement on the distribution of profits of a company that was associated with Viktor Yanukovych’s entourage.
“Chevron and Shell have found consensus with all their opponents. Now the only threat to their work in Ukraine may be instability on the eastern borders of Ukraine, near which the Yuzovsky site is located,” notes Investgazeta.
Let us remind you that official Kyiv plans to use shale gas production to reduce dependence on Russian fuel supplies.
