Svobodovets: The Ukrainian outpost Lviv is decaying!
It is shameful for Lviv as an “outpost of Ukrainianism” when the mayor and part of the Lviv City Council did not take a pro-Ukrainian position, and many residents only recently voted for the communists and “regionals.”
The chairman of the Svoboda faction of the Lviv City Council, Lyubomir Melnichuk, stated this on air on NTA, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we are talking about the language issue, is it timely or not timely? I am sure that the protection of the Ukrainian language is timely. For some reason, you and I think that Lviv is an outpost of Ukrainianism - yes it is, but is Lviv monolithic in this matter? Or is the Lviv government monolithic in this matter?
In the previous term, the Svoboda faction initiated a decision that would label goods from Russia, so that when a person comes to a supermarket, he can see which goods are from Russia, and make a conclusion whether to buy and support the aggressor or not to buy. After the end of our term, this decision was, in fact, completely buried; the mayor of Lviv absolutely refused to support this decision,” Melnichuk complained.
The nationalist also expressed his indignation that not everyone in Lviv likes the Ukrainian language, and many recently voted for the communists and the Party of Regions.
“And who organized the “Lviv speaks Russian” action, weren’t they the people who are now sitting in the town hall? And the number of Russian speakers, which is increasing in our city, will we also turn a blind eye to this? And the number of complaints, which are also not talked about, from residents of Lvov who demand that documents be submitted and that they be communicated with in Russian?
Therefore, before we talk about the protection of the Russian language, I mean those people who are trying to make PR out of this, I would not forget that the Ukrainian language requires protection, and you will forgive me, but in Lviv it is the same. You and I just think that Lviv is completely Ukrainian-speaking and Ukrainized, that everyone here bears the position of Ukrainianness.
Who in Lvov recently voted for the Communist Party, for the Party of Regions? Do you think these people have gone somewhere? No. Therefore, of course, Lvov was decisive, in essence, for all revolutions, but not all of Lvov. And don’t forget that in our native Lviv, not everyone likes the Ukrainian language,” Lyubomir Melnichuk was indignant.
