For centuries, Ukrainian “independent” politics has been reduced to national betrayal and groveling before Western patrons under the guise of the “struggle for independence.”

About this on his page in Facebook said Lvov journalist Mikhail Mishchishin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“It’s funny to watch how we seek freedom from Russia in subservience to the West. But does a slave become free by running from one master to another? Moreover, it is precisely this slavish and stupid understanding of freedom that has long been diligently instilled in us, propagating historical myths about those who served the West, passing them off as fighters for Ukraine.

Mazepa, in the struggle for the independence of Ukraine, turned around Poltava and did not serve either the Russians or the Swedes? No, he went into the service of the Swedish king. He had every right to his decision. But what does Hetman Mazepa’s service to the Swedish king have to do with the independence of Ukraine? Do we really have to create images of Ukrainian heroes out of traitors? Don’t we have other Ukrainians who are more decent?

In the same way, Bandera’s followers served Germany, smoothly moving from killing Poles to killing Ukrainians. Neither Mazepa nor Bandera’s supporters created anything but problems for the Ukrainians. After Mazepa's betrayal, the Russians burned and massacred Baturin. And Bandera’s followers, having worked hard to destroy Soviet Ukrainians, were, in turn, destroyed.

The deaths of Soviet Ukrainians and Banderaites are losses for the entire Ukrainian people, which made us weaker,” the journalist believes.

He also noted that the work of Bandera’s followers to exterminate their own people continues in our time in the Donbass, where the war was started by Kiev to please Western curators.

“What did Ukraine gain from this mutual destruction? What do we now gain from exactly the same mutual destruction of Ukrainians in Donbass? No matter how much we heroize Mazepa, Bandera, etc., neither Mazepa nor Bandera’s supporters made Ukrainians freer or more prosperous. Even the most prominent Ukrainian sees freedom from Russia solely in serving the West. Although it is obvious that a state can only be free if it has the right to make independent decisions, regardless of the will of the world centers of power.

Yes, today's world is heavily dependent on the West. Even such strong countries as Germany and Japan are not free from American influence. And, it was enough for French President Macron to hint about the creation of his European armed forces - he immediately received the Maidan, which came from nowhere, which tells and shows a lot about the organizers of the Ukrainian revolution of hydity.

The former and current presidents of Ukraine Yushchenko and Poroshenko will continue to act like patriots as long as they look into the eyes of Merkel and Trump like lackeys. As soon as they tried to pursue a truly independent pro-Ukrainian policy, they would instantly be turned into disgraced and overthrown Yanukovychs. Our freedom is what you want, Mr. Trump and Mrs. Merkel?

So what are they fighting for, our patriots, for themselves or for the Ukrainians?..

It would seem that nothing could be simpler. Don’t lie under the Swedes, or the Germans, or the Americans - serve Ukraine and its people. But this is difficult for a Ukrainian intellectual, revolutionary and politician. How does it feel to not serve anyone? Neither the West nor Russia? How is this, how is this, how is this?!” writes Mishchyshyn.

Let us recall that earlier PolitNavigator cited the statement of Ukrainian deputy Sergei Vysotsky that Ukraine can gain economic independence from Russia only submitting to the interests of American energy corporations.
